IWC's Top Gun series is not merely a celebration of the famous elite pilot training centre for the US Navy in Miramar, California. Nor is it some kind of sponsorship deal related to the iconic 1986 Tom Cruise motion picture. Rather, the Top Gun watches are a statement of confidence from IWC, expressing its view that, like the recruits at the Fighter Weapons School, its products are the best of the best. The Top Gun logo only appears on the most impressive models, such as this enormous pilot's watch, with its extra lightweight ceramic case made with zirconium oxide fired at temperatures approaching 2,000 degrees centigrade. In-house calibre 51111 has an equally impressive seven-day power reserve.
