Which Explorer IIThe Explorer II was built for cavers, who needed to tell day from night underground — hence the fixed 24-hour bezel and the orange hand. The current reference is the 226570, which returned to 42mm with a wider hand set; the 216570 before it is close to identical and costs less.The choice is black or the white Polar dial. Polar is the more distinctive of the two and the one people tend to come looking for. Earlier references — the 16570 and the vintage 1655 — are smaller at 40mm and collected in their own right.
