Root Beer
The Root Beer is the Rolex GMT-Master II with a brown and black Cerachrom bezel. The steel and Everose gold version is the 126711CHNR; the full Everose version is the 126715CHNR. The name goes back to the 1970s two-tone GMTs with brown-and-gold bezels, worn most famously by Clint Eastwood. Rolex revived the colourway in 2018 in ceramic. In sunlight the brown warms noticeably against the rose gold, which is the whole point of it.

The Root Beer is the Rolex GMT-Master II with a brown and black Cerachrom bezel, introduced in 2018 in two forms: the 126711CHNR in Everose gold and Oystersteel, and the 126715CHNR in solid Everose gold.
The name is inherited. It belonged first to the brown-and-gold GMT-Masters of the 1970s and 1980s, and collectors moved it across when the brown bezel returned in ceramic. Of the two-colour bezels, it is the one that divides opinion most and the one that has aged best.
Two-tone done deliberately
The 126711CHNR pairs an Everose gold bezel, crown and centre links with an Oystersteel case and outer links. The 126715CHNR is Everose throughout. Everose is Rolex’s own rose gold alloy, developed to resist the fading to yellow that affects some rose golds over time. On both, the brown reads warmer in daylight and almost black indoors.
How it wears
At 40mm the case is the same as every other current GMT-Master II, but the gold content makes the solid Everose version noticeably heavier. The two-tone sits between a steel sports watch and a dress watch in a way few Rolex references manage, which is why opinion on it is so split — people either want exactly this or nothing like it.
What to check
Inspect the Everose for wear at the bezel edge and the clasp, where two-tone watches show handling first. Confirm the bezel turns crisply and that the brown insert is free of chips. As with the rest of the line, check the second time-zone hand sets independently.
